Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I took this picture today when Chris and I were out driving around Cincinnati. The rain stopped for a couple of hours and we went to Urban Outfitters to return some shoes and spent more money. Shopping can be therapeutic. Well, it will be for Josh R. and Luke P. - I bought them a little gift.

Chris also humored me by stopping at various buildings and interesting sites of photographic interest to me. These steps remind me of life. You can see the first step clearly but if you look too far ahead it can be deceiving. Almost like the steps become more narrow. They don't. But if you keep looking too far ahead you might believe that. One step at a time.

While we were out today, we both had the same thought about Emerson. The thought was that we would never wonder what Emerson would look like. Lennon is her identical twin! Lennon would always carry a part of Emerson with her. I know that seems silly but sometimes we cling to anything so we don't forget.

My grandmother died 20 years ago this April. The Christmas before she died I went to visit with her. As almost an afterthought she handed me a bottle of Lavender Foaming Bath Bubbles. Not an expensive gift, likely something she purchased from the Dollar Store. The day she died I grabbed the bottle from out of the bathroom, its label worn from the water and 3/4's the contents consumed by my tub. I still have that bottle of used bubble bath. Why??? Maybe I'm borderline hoarder or maybe I'm too sentimental or maybe both. It's my reminder of her. I probably kept it because I was afraid I would forget her. Logically, I could never forget her. Fearfully, I felt I might. The bottle is kept safe and reminds me of the last time I saw her.

  1. Beautiful... and it is pretty cool that Lennon will be your tangible reminder of little Emerson. Thank you, Lord, for little gifts like this in the midst of our grief... and thank you that the steps do not actually become narrower. Love you and yours!

  5. We sang this favorite hymn at prayer meeting tonight and I thought I would share it.

    From Every Stormy Wind

    From every stormy wind that blows,
    From every swelling tide of woes,
    There is a calm, a sure retreat;
    ’Tis found beneath the mercy seat.

    There is a place where Jesus sheds
    The oil of gladness on our heads;
    A place than all besides more sweet;
    It is the blood bought mercy seat.

    There is a scene where spirits blend,
    Where friend holds fellowship with friend;
    Though sundered far, by faith they meet
    Around one common mercy seat.

    There, there, on eagles’ wings we soar,
    And time and sense seem all no more;
    And heaven comes down, our souls to greet,
    And glory crowns the mercy seat.

    Oh, let my hand forget her skill,
    My tongue be silent, cold, and still,
    This bounding heart forget to beat,
    If I forget the mercy seat!

    ♥ you all
